Sons of Osiris: The Sword of Kings by Michael Westmoreland is a spellbinding opening into a series that will delight fans of fantasy tales with strong hints of mythology. In the kingdom of Hostellus, brothers, all sons of Osiris are pitted against each other in a game of power as the dreaded Black Prince sends out an expedition to retrieve a long-forgotten, lost artifact.  While Matticus and Zededia are ready to slaughter each other for power, their youngest brother, Lucien, is torn between reconciling the two brothers and his loyalty to the crown. As the freezing winter hits the land, the two brothers are ready for war. But can the youngest brother find a common ground and bring peace to a land that is fast drifting into chaos? 

This first installment in the Sons of Osiris series is a bold invitation for an adventure for fans of fantasy, a stunningly accomplished work with a wonderfully written setting in a land that is experiencing many conflicts, with factions eager to grab power and a king with serious challenges to face. That two brothers should march their armies against each other is powerful enough for a premise, but then there is a tweak — a third brother who instantly gains the sympathy of readers. Michael Westmoreland writes with care and the writing is focused on the action; the imagery is rich, with fully drawn landscapes and elements of the weather that are vividly captured in the narration. This is a conflict-driven narrative that stands out as good material for Motion Picture. The author’s ability to draw the attention of readers to the action, focusing on the essential elements of the story is fascinating. The prose is gorgeous, the characters are sophisticated, and the plot points are compelling enough to keep readers engrossed. Overall, a deft, balanced, and cleverly plotted tale that will, for sure, garner a good following.
