The Legacy of Prairie Winds features well-developed relationships, and I enjoyed how they bring humanity and realism to the writing. The scenes are well-crafted, and some will tug at the edges of your heart like Helena’s labor and birth of a child during a snowstorm, and the struggle of Johann and Janus to save their home during a devastating tornado. This is a delightful novel, and I was fascinated by the author’s skill in blending literary elements, such as the symbolism of the cottonwood, with intriguing characters and themes of family, community, and grit. The storytelling is superb, and the narrative evokes seasons of the heart that mirror the changing seasons of Nebraska.
