Lilah Loves Life by Brian Sullivan introduces Lilah, the child who wakes up and is instantly enthralled by the blue and clear clouds floating by, excited to be alive. Lilah looks forward to the day with expectation, thinking about the many things that can be done — dancing, singing, laughing, and playing. The small girl dreams about growing up to be a cook, so she could make people happy by cooking and serving them food. Her adventures take her from home to her mom's flower bed where she finds a butterfly that she captures and frees because it is ''so beautiful.''

This is a beautifully written, fun poetry book for children that introduces a character they will adore. Lilah is a carefree, thoughtful, and eccentric child who loves to be happy. The author does a wonderful job of capturing the exuberance and innocence of the child in Lilah. Her adventures are fun, from playing ballerina to tricking the dog with the ball. Her zest for life will bring color to the world of children. The illustrations by Laura Watson are terrific and colorful and the vibrant and cool colors add depth to the reading experience. Brian Sullivan's Lilah Loves Life is a great book to introduce Children to poetry. I loved the strong imagery, the lyrical character of the writing, and the real world the author creates for readers. Lilah Loves Life is infused with realism and the young protagonist radiates a light that is contagious.  She challenges readers to think about how enthusiastic they are about their day and the activities they undertake. This book is a perfect gift for children ages 3 to 8. This book was read to me by my five-year-old daughter who fell in love with it.
