series. This entry introduces another unique, compelling hero, a character as genuinely
flawed and lovable as those in the other books. Meet Matthew Holt, a Hockey
player for the L.A. Quakes team and a man who will do anything for his team. He
spares no energy when he plays and can even get brutal if that is what it takes
to defend the team and teammates. Then something bad happens: he is traded to a
team thousands of miles from home, away from friends and family. And he doesn’t
like that. Now his anger has only one outlet—the hockey pitch. But something
else is happening: Matthew is in love with Phoebe Anderson, the younger sister
of one of his teammates. But there are challenges in the way, including family,
teammates, and Matthew’s growing anger. What will it take to have Phoebe?
Alisa Jean, is this the conclusion to the series, or is
there something else in the works? Reading about the characters in this series
has been an enjoyable ride for me, and the more you get to know them, the more
you want to see more like them. They are downright normal people, and while
they stand out in their skills in the Hockey game, they are as fragile as any
of us, deeply flawed, and like the next-door neighbor you can’t stop watching. Matthew
has emotional depth, and his brutality in the game and persistent anger are
relatable. I felt for him; I loved him; I wanted to see what became of him and
his love interest. Matthew (A Los Angeles Quakes Hockey Series, Book
3) is a fast-paced, emotionally grounded tale with strong psychological
underpinnings. The narrative voice is irresistible, and the prose entices like
drippings of the honeycomb—another stellar work from Alisa Jean.
