Nothing to See Here by Brendan Walsh is a rollicking ride for readers looking for cleverly plotted tales with a strong dose of humor and unforgettable characters. Maxi Dillion goes back to his hometown after being away for twenty-five years in New York. There is speculation from everyone as to why Maxi comes back to live with his eighty-year-old mother. Things are about to take a dramatic turn in his life when he meets Ella, a childhood friend who's always been into him. Ella is a beautiful woman now and the attraction between her and Maxi is as strong as they are not willing to admit. At Ella's house, Maxi discovers a treasure map and that is how he, Ella, and two of Ella's friends set out to hunt for the treasure.

It is a journey fraught with unsuspecting twists and turns, featuring characters that are finely drawn and sophisticated. Brendan Walsh's writing is at the top of the game, using quirky characters to inject life into the story, from characters in a gay bar to hired actors from drama class. When readers encounter Ella and Maxi, they immediately sense their reluctance to admit how they feel about each other, and this behavior that tends to reject truth and reality permeates the narrative. Nothing is as it seems and problems increase as the plot moves forward with both fun and dangerous encounters. The author puts in the hearts of readers to thirst for adventure with the idea of a treasure and through each page, they are eager to know what happens next in the lives of the characters. Walsh has a terrific sense of humor and this is exemplified in the dramatic scenes, the deft handling of relationships between the characters, and the compelling narrative voice. Nothing to See Here is a beautifully crafted tale with an irresistible appeal to fans of humor and stories with finely sculpted characters. It is as suspenseful and balanced.
