Max is super excited for the Christmas break, which is just a few weeks away! But when he learns of an unexpected event taking place at school, he is nervous. This event is scarier than the fearful school bully, Bart Johnson. It is the Winter School Dance at Filmore Middle School! The event is so much more embarrassing than anything Max has ever experienced. And to add insult to the injury, the girls are going to be asking the boys to the dance this time around. Max doesn’t even know if he wants to go to the dance. The only way Max can think of how to learn new dance moves is through a game on his Wii. He must learn so many new things to enter the dating life: being taught how to dance by his mother and even writing poetry. But the most important question of them all is this: Will anyone ask Max to the dance?

Ear Wax Max: All Wrapped Up by Alisdair Baird is a humorous and light-hearted story about Max, a middle school student, and his adventures and problems. The protagonist, Max, doesn’t have a clue about middle school dating. His apprehension and cluelessness add to the enjoyable plot. The writing is highly engaging with fun antics of the quirky characters and relevance to connect to readers of all ages. Alisdair Baird is a master entertainer who writes characters that are real and reminds readers of what it felt like being in Middle school. Baird captures the essence of youth perfectly in Ear Wax Max series as Max struggles through the rollercoaster of emotions he feels as he goes through middle school. Ear Wax Max: All Wrapped Up is quick-paced and contains moments that will bring out the best laughter in readers. This book is a fun read for teenagers and young adults, a book I’d love to see as Motion Picture.
