Call Me Kismet: A Novel by PJ Mayhem follows Fiona Johnson, a woman in her thirties who decides to ditch her old way of life to embrace one that is more spiritually focused. She has personality issues and struggles with anxiety and self-doubt. One of the steps she takes towards personal transformation is the change of name, adopting Kismet as her new identity. When her spiritual healer Amethyst reveals that she can see a man in Kismet’s aura, Kismet sets out to uncover who this soulmate of hers is and there is no other person in her mind but the singing fruitologist at the local supermarket. But nothing is as easy as it seems, because the singing fruitologist proves highly elusive plus she has to deal with her anxiety issues and her family’s incomprehension of what is going on with her. What will it take her to finally find love and connect with the man her healer sees in her aura?

This is a novel that is well-written to explore the idiosyncrasy that inhabits the soul of a genuinely human character. While the pacing is slow, the reader can’t take their eyes off the flawed and realistic protagonist. PJ Mayhem writes in prose that is dazzling and infuses the writing with humanity and a rare touch of magic. The characters are relatable and the female protagonist is expertly accomplished, a character that is real in her struggles, especially her sense of anxiety. The humor fills the pages of the narrative, augmenting the entertainment. Call Me Kismet: A Novel is a gorgeous treat and readers will have a jolly good time journeying with the crazy protagonist on her quest for love. You’ll enjoy the great storytelling, the author’s exploration of human nature and the contours of anxiety, and the humor that keeps the pages turning.
